PLAYER INFO

Player: Name
Age:
Invited by: Name of invite
Contact: Primary means of contact
Current Characters: For current players only

CHARACTER INFO

Character: Character you plan on bringing in
Canon: Canon and canon point. If an original character, simply note it as such. If a CRAU, note it here as well.
Age: (of the character)

Background Information: Just some basic background information about the character and what they've been through in their canon. We don't need a full biography, just a few paragraphs or even a bullet list highlighting key points will do. Wiki links are also acceptable. If this is a CRAU you will need to provide some brief information on what developments will be carrying over. We don't need a full history, just enough for us to get a feel of what kind of experiences they would have gone through that would cause changes in the character outside of their canon. 1200 word limit.

Personality: Please answer the following questions about your character. Be as clear as possible, and provide examples where you can. You can format this section as either 1) individual sections for each question; or 2) a more freeform essay/paragraph that covers all the topics. Please do not exceed 1200 words total.
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?

Abilities & Inventory: Describe or list whatever canon abilities and items that will be brought with the character, and be sure to mention any nerfs that will need to be made or else we'll decide on a nerf while processing the application. Linking to wikis is fine, just be sure to point out any particular abilities that need to be nerfed. Reminder: the only items that will be brought along with the character will be anything that is their personal belongings and is either on their person or near them at the time they enter Escordvi.

ARMADA SELECTION

Choose between Corsairs or Paladins and include a brief blurb explaining why. We would prefer if there's some thought put into it, such as including why they would fit in the faction and what they would do. Some ideas of what you'd like to explore with the character will help. We will try to slot them into your preferred choice, but if there is an imbalance in the two we may have to put them in the other armada. If your character can fit in either, please consider and note it down!

SAMPLE

Test Drive Sample: Link to TDM thread(s). These can be either toplevels or threads tagged into (toplevel NOT required). You can also supplement with other threads outside of the game if needed.

Questions: Any questions you might have.

Dion and Sylvestre

It was his unreasonable decisions, but also the loss of Sylvestre’s humanity that upset Dion on the most. The way that Dion laments about how his father changed both in his decision making and the way he treated and saw Dion, implies that they used to have a fairly good relationship. This is also demonstrated by the fact that Dion agonized over the coup – necessary that it was – and instead of just burning it all to the ground, he was trying to save his father, trying to make him see the light to the very end.

When Anabella entered the household, she immediately began poisoning Sylvestre against Dion. Dion did not like it, but at this point in time that we see him their relationship is so fractured that when Dion would raise his voice, or a protest, Sylvestre would dismiss him. It’s incredibly painful for Dion to be dismissed like this, and he knows that Anabella is the cause of this wedge, and of course, Olivier. He found comfort, solace and a place among the dragoons, although that was unlikely to be Anabella’s goal, but at this point in time, Sylvestre saw Dion as little more than a tool to be used. This also caused him anguish and despair because he wanted to be treated with respect and to be heard because he could see the man was slipping away from him, and the ideals of Greagor and Sanbreque.

Losing the throne was not the ideal, nor was it something he was happy about. He’s visibly angry and frustrated by this move – but at the same time, it’s a symptom of a bigger problem, the loss of Sylvestre’s humanity. The most insulting thing he said and did was imply that their citizens could just be bred to replace the loss of life which was so antithetical to Dion’s outlook, and what he was raised to believe, there was no path aside from destroying Olivier and Ultima’s influence once and for all. He believed, unfortunately incorrectly, that he could save Sylvestre, and taking his life with his own hands made that subsequently impossible, and shattered a part of Dion to the point that Ultima could sneak in there and influence him.

Dion and Terence

Terence was his childhood friend and squire. This means that they spent a great deal of time together, playing and likely Terence was always the person closest to Dion. He has always cherished him to some degree, and it’s quite likely that Anabella’s movements and ministrations put them apart for some time. Dion wouldn’t have taken that well, he would’ve felt alone and bereft and Terence clearly didn’t like that as he worked hard to get himself instituted in the dragoons, eventually rising to the rank of second in command.

This ultimately blossomed into romance and Dion makes it clear that Terence is the most important person in the world to him. He appreciates and accepts Terence’s support, love and kindness and loves him in return. However, despite the fact that he holds such high regard for Terence, Dion has placed duty above all else. This is demonstrated when Terence asks him to avoid priming, and Dion admits he would like to listen to him and do as he requests, but it’s his duty and he can’t. He laments and openly points out that this is not what he wants, but what he feels he has to do.

This is further exemplified when he feels as if he’s forced to say goodbye to Terence. The only thing he feels he can do for the man is to offer him a safe exit, with Kihel. Not only does he owe a debt to the girl and he would repay it, he feels as though he owes Terence something too. It’s soul-crushing for Dion, to choose the path he does. There’s probably a part of him that can see a future where he leaves it all behind, but as he feels responsible for the situation with Ultima, he feels as though it is his duty.

He exhibits strong guilt and remorse, but at the same time he refuses to stray from his duty and ideals, even in the face of unconditional love.

Dion’s Guilt vs. Duty

There are early indications that Dion tends to take on guilt in the name of duty – subtle things, like refusing to give in to his desires with Terence and abandon duty to do what he wants, or the fact he feels responsible for Sylvestre’s moves to the point that he needs to stop them. He feels it’s his duty to do things that are outside what would normally be within his window of acceptable duty and he does feel guilt for feeling that way.

The Crystalline Dominion has the unfortunate honour of being the place where his duties shift from serving Sanbreque’s ruler to the best of his ability, to saving the people of Sanbreque from the ruler himself. Dion sees the populace as the ones he needs to support and protect and he feels as though his hand has been forced and he needs to mount a coup. The coup attempt is a disaster on all fronts – he kills Sylvestre and Ultima forces him into priming, and Bahamut, out of control, destroys the place. While he likely would have accepted death, thanks to Joshua he was saved. This left Dion with the unpleasant task of living for Sanbreque. It is truly when he walks among the rubble that the full force of the ramifications of his decisions hit him, and he would give into the guilt and despair and just die. Again, this is thwarted through Kihel’s actions. Dion does not feel particularly good about this. He sees the death and destruction around him and although he cannot possibly be to blame, it was Ultima’s doing, he is confronted with deep remorse, guilt and anguish over what Bahamut – he – has wrought on the people of Sanbreque.

It is from that moment on that Dion vows to himself to turn his guilt into his duty. He must atone for what Bahamut and Ultima did, accepting the responsibility that was not his in the first place. To seek out this atonement, Dion would work with Joshua and Clive to take down Ultima with each painstaking step forward. Dion knew that there was no happy ending in this and he was prepared to pull out all of the stops. He feels as though this is his mess and he needs to fix it at the cost of everything he has. He was hoping to find forgiveness in his sacrifice, but as to whether or not he would get it, he wouldn’t find out.

Notes on Abilities (to supplement the descriptions):

In his usual day-to-day form, Dion would trend to use his dragoon abilities first. He could manage some light manipulation, like say a ball of light to illuminate a room. He specializes in a jump that uses his light to attack multiple targets at a time. While he might have further attacks – Dion is not pre-disposed to using them, and wouldn’t be using them in Escordvi.

In his semi-primed state, he will undergo the physical changes described. At that point, one could see megaflare which specifically rains down bolts of light on an area within a decent range. As he can wield light, being creative like throwing small beams or balls of light are not outside the realm of possibility. He’s also just as likely to keep fighting with his lance. There shouldn’t be any nerfs needed here – and this will likely be Dion’s strongest form, for the time being.

In his fully primed state, he will transform fully into Bahamut, although he will be roughly the size of a volleyball. This is where you’d see megaflare, yes, although coming from him not the sky – and the escalating beam attacks of gigaflare, terraflare and zettaflare. Although it’s intended that he’ll get bigger, initial attacks will be adorably cute and barely pack a punch at all. All that work to zettaflare himself a small hole. His attack potency will be correlated to his size – however as zettaflare is specifically a world destroying attack, he’ll find it will never get stronger than say, destroying a ship, or a building. To that end gigaflare and terraflare will scale down accordingly, cutting that potency by 1/3 each time.
